During my third year at high school I achieved a grade C in GSCE IT and this was the first time I had regular access to a PC. During my GSCE I spend most of my time using Microsoft Office and Microsoft Excel and this helped me gain a good knowledge of these applications which has helped me during my further studies.

As I had achieved my GSCE, in IT, during year 9 I decided that I should study Media Studies instead of ICT during years 10 and 11 as this would help discover more about design. I also felt that it would allow me develop skills that would help me in the future such as; how to annotate and analyse media on a basic level…

Science Made Fun is a website I created for my final major project during my time on the HND Interactive Media course.

The aim was to make the process of learning fun and exciting for children within Key Stage 1. The website helps  children identify a number of different animals and the environment they live in.

They will also learn to identify a number of plants from within their local environment. They can also find out more information about the environment they live in. They can also find out more information about climate change and what they can do to prevent it.

The Emit record label distributed electronic music between 1994 and 1998. For this college project we were set the task of created a complete corporate identity for the re-launch of the company.

This was the first time I had created a full corporate identity for a company and found it a very interesting process.

Lucid Dreams CD re-design

The bitBlog blogging engine was an application I created to enable me to learn PHP (Hypertext PreProcessor) and MySql.

bitBlog is initially a blogging platform but it also has an image manager, Pixlr integration and a secure login form.

I found creating this application a great way of learning PHP and MySql. From this project I plan to create my own CMS (Content Management System) for future projects but I plan to use Ruby on Rails instead of PHP.

As well as creating the corporate identity for Emit records I also had to create the CD artwork for one of their releases. We where given a random cd and I received Lucid Dreams.

This cd contains a variety of different case studies which where recorded at the institute of psychophysical research, oxford in April 1995.

I found it difficult to draw inspiration from this cd as it was from a genre of music I had never heard before and it meant I had to take a large step outside of my comfort zone.

Due to this I feel it provided me with a great basis for future projects which I involve me designing for I have no prior knowledge of.

Emit corporate identity

During the team project assignment of the HND Interactive Media course I was part of the team that created and implemented the ND Photography website.

The aim of this project was to give the students on the ND Photography course, at Wakefield college, a place to demonstrate their work.

This project required me to use the ZenPhoto CMS to allow future updates of the website to be easy and simple.

As a college project I was set the task of creating a design for the for an unknown product. Whilst creating initial sketches and designs I tried to create designs which would work on of a variety of different products.

The final product was an M5 coke bottle. The M5 coke bottles were a special set five collectible aluminum bottles commissioned by Coca-Cola. The five design companies are below:

During the team project assignment of the HND Interactive Media course I was part of the team that re-designed the BTEC Games Development website.

The website enables the student on the BTEC Games development course at Wakefield College to access a variety of resources relating to the course.

They can also use the Google calendar to find out about upcoming events within the industry and relating to the course.

My role in the team was the developer and so it was responsibility to build the website using XHTML and CSS.
